No Namibians stranded in Middle East
The international relations ministry says that Namibia has no embassies in any of the conflict-affected Middle Eastern countries and, thus, does not need to withdraw diplomatic staff.
Ambassador Penda Naanda, executive director of the international relations ministry, said so far the ministry has not been alerted to any Namibian citizens stranded in the region.
“We are covering Israel from the headquarters here in Windhoek, as well as Palestine and Iran. Once we identify any citizen, we will return them. You know when the attacks on Gaza started we had nationals who went for business, but fortunately their relatives informed us well in advance. We are also not aware of students in those parts,” he said.
