Two children die after family gets food poisoning

Two children died while six other family members are being treated for what is suspected to be food poisoning in Livayi village in the Kavango West Region.
Namibian Police acting regional commander, Deputy Commissioner Eino Nambahu, confirmed the incident. The deceased were identified as Shinyemba Nangombe (7) and Likuwa Nahambo (1).
According to a police report, the family prepared mutete and porridge for lunch, which they all ate. “At the time, only one of the older kids complained of a stomach ache,” Nambahu said.
“The family prepared porridge with milk for supper again at around 17:00, which they all consumed. At about 19:00, one of the kids started vomiting and getting weak and later died. [Officers] from the Ndiyona Police Station, accompanied by medical personnel from Nyangana hospital, found one victim dead while others were vomiting and in a weak condition,” he said.
The other family members were rushed to hospital and were later transferred to Rundu Intermediate Hospital. “The youngest victim, Likuwa, unfortunately didn’t make it to hospital on time,” Nambahu explained.
