SHORTS: Toddler drowns in water bucket
Barely a week after the police in Oshana Region issued a stern warning to parents about the dangers of toddler drownings, a 13-month-old baby boy has become the latest victim after falling into a bucket of water at home in Oshakati.
Oshana Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Frederick Ndjadila, said the incident occurred around 23:30 on Monday at the family's residence in the Pohamba location.
Ndjadila stated that the lifeless body of the baby was discovered in a 20-litre bucket, which was half full of water.
“It is further alleged that the deceased was in the bedroom with the mother, who fell asleep. When the father of the deceased arrived home, he found the lifeless body of his son in the bucket while the mother was still asleep,” he said.
Ndjadila added that the deceased did not have a registered name as both his parents are illegal immigrants from Angola. No foul play is suspected, and the body was transported to the Oshakati Police Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
