Nine road accidents recorded on Christmas Day
No lives were lost in the nine road accidents reported across Namibia on Christmas Day in 2024. However, several injuries were recorded, the most significant being from an accident in the early hours of the day. At approximately 02:20, the driver of an Iveco minibus collided with the trailer of a stationary truck on the road between Otavi and Otjiwarongo. The injured were transported to the state hospital in Otjiwarongo, and the police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.
According to a report from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA), a total of 10 people lost their lives on Namibian roads between December 22 and 29. Over the festive period, 73 serious road accidents were recorded, resulting in 173 injuries. On the first Sunday of the holiday season, 14 accidents occurred, claiming four lives. Among the deceased were two pedestrians in the Otjozondjupa and Oshikoto regions. Fatalities were also recorded in two separate incidents in the Hardap and Khomas regions.
