#JustIn: Lucky escape for tourists

Otis Finck - Nobody was injured when a Toyota Fortuner was trapped and rolled over by the high tide at Sandwich Harbour on Tuesday at about 13:00.

Photos of the damaged vehicle and a video clip of persons racing to the rescue of those trapped, circulated on social media angling groups.

Jaundre Gouws confirmed that no one was injured.

“They were driving and the car took in water. The engine subsequently died. The driver and the four tourists he was transporting abandoned the vehicle and climbed to the top of the dune in the area.

“They were rescued by other tour operators. The car was initially at a safe spot, but the tide came in and rolled it over,” Gouws told Namibian Sun.

No official statement could be obtained yet from the police as to what had transpired.
