Adrift at sea

Claudia Reiter
A rescue team is still searching for a missing fisherman who is adrift at sea.

Although radio contact was established on Monday, the fisherman is still floating in a dinghy near Cape Cross. "We managed to communicate with him by radio. However, he is so far north that we need air support to find him."

The Ministry of Fisheries said that an aircraft has been assigned to expand the search.

According to the report, the vessel in which the man was originally stranded, was anchored and waiting to be towed to Nigeria. One of the crew members then grabbed a dinghy without a motor and only oars, and abandoned the ship on Sunday.

According to a voice message circulating on social media, the vessel was on its way to Nigeria. However, these plans changed and the ship was supposed to be towed to Walvis Bay. The crew member panicked and left the ship by dinghy.

According to the report, he grabbed all the provisions and took it with him.
