A member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) was found dead yesterday morning after he allegedly died by suicide at the Rundu Intermediate Hospital. Namibian Police acting commander of the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Eino Nambahu, confirmed the incident, which took place at around 05:00.

The deceased was identified as Isai Kanhuku (33), a soldier stationed at the Rundu military base. His next of kin has been informed.

Nambahu said Kanhuku died after hanging himself with an electrical wire.

“His body was discovered by nurses on duty after a long wait for his return from the toilet. The nurses did not observe him carrying anything when he left for the toilet,” he said.

“Kanhuku, who was admitted on Saturday, was receiving medical attention. No suicide note was found,” he added.
