Police officer helps to deliver baby

News in short
Nikanor Nangolo
Namibian Police warrant officer Joel Hamukoto on Monday assisted a nurse with the delivery of a healthy baby at Mpoto village in the Kavango West Region.

Chief inspector in the region Raimbert Muronga confirmed the incident, which took place at around 10:00.

Muronga said Hamukoto was on his way to fetch water for his colleagues at the Mpungu police post when he found a woman in labour on the side of the road.

“After assessing the situation, Hamukoto quickly drove to Mpungu Clinic to get a nurse as the baby's head was out already,” Muronga said.

“I fetched the nurse and the woman was helped immediately. I took them all back to Mpungu Clinic. The baby and the mother are both well and in good condition,” Hamukoto narrated.

According to Muronga, the woman's family had called the clinic for help when she went into labour, but were reportedly told that the driver was not available.
