Hard work pays off
Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
On Friday, 28 April, Wennie du Plessis Secondary School acknowledged the excellent achievements of grade 8 to 10 students for the year 2022.
It is always an honour to be acknowledged, especially for the efforts a learner has put into their work.
We regret to announce that the overall performance of the school has been declining.
However, we see potential for improvement this year, as learners demonstrate outstanding performances.
The prize-giving programme was led by our very own debate coach, Mrs Kangandji and learners representative council teacher, Mr Kandjii.
They welcomed the learners and guests to this memorable ceremony.
Our very own scripture teacher, Mrs Zauana, opened the ceremony with prayer and some motivating scriptures.
Encouragement
One of our guests of honour was a member of the school board, chairperson Abisai Muundjua, who took the opportunity to encourage the learners who didn't receive any prizes and underlined that there is still a next time.
In addition, Gobabis mayor, another guest at the prize-giving ceremony, Melba Tjozongoro said: "You can never be successful without discipline.”
She spoke about the challenges she experienced with her son and how they overcame them through discipline.
The ceremony was also graced with the presence of a member of parliament and former Wennie du Plessis SS learner, Yvette Araes.
"I never imagined I'd be a member of parliament being from such a small town and with little resources... so if you have access to so many resources like computer rooms, you can continue to conquer", said Araes.
I would like to thank everyone for the effort they put into their schoolwork and congratulate each and every learner who made it onto the stage.
We are gradually bringing back the old, committed, well-disciplined Wennie du Plessis Secondary School. I cannot forget the tireless effort our teachers are putting into this noble cause. A very big thank you to Ms. L. Haradoes for making this event a success.
