Man unleashes dog on neighbour
A man unleashed his dog on his neighbour at Oshakati's Evululuko location on Saturday morning, with the victim sustaining serious injuries during the attack.
The incident allegedly took place because the dog owner has "personal issues" with the victim's brother.
The victim, aged 35, is currently receiving medical treatment at the Oshakati State Hospital.
According to Oshana community affairs officer, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, the victim went to his neighbour’s house to greet him.
When he entered the yard, the owner of the house told the man to get out because he has issues with the victim's brother.
“In the process, the owner of the house went to the dog cage and let the dog out. The dog - a pitbull - bit the victim on his right hand and right foot and he sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to Oshakati State Hospital,” Aiyambo said.
No case has been opened so far against the dog owner, but the victim has been advised to do so when he is out of hospital.
Oshana regional commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, warned Oshakati residents against owning aggressive dog breeds.
He added that residents who keep dogs for protection should not use the dogs to attack people.
The police cannot tolerate personal attacks on residents as it goes against the spirit of 'One Namibia, One Nation', he said.
“The owners must know that they will face the law at the end of the day and such dogs will be put down,” he warned.
Just last year, Ruben Abraham, a 44-year-old security guard, died after he was attacked by five dogs in Oshakati. The decision to put down the dogs - which belonged to a Chinese national - came after the animals attacked another security guard, Simon Jafet (25), just one day later.
Jafet survived the attack.
