JUST IN: Tribute to Gerson Kapenda
High-ranking officials such as the minister of urban and rural development, Erastus Uutoni, Swapo secretary general Sophia Shaningwa and Oshana's regional police commander, Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, today attended the memorial service of the late Gerson Hannu Kapenda at his home village Onyelelo in Okaku in the Oshana region.
The late Kapenda was 56, and served as the Okaku constituency councilor and chairperson of the Oshana regional council.
Uutoni described Kapenda as an individual who worked hard and his leadership was accompanied by serving the Namibian community.
“He was committed to his duty, his untimely departure marks a loss to the entire Namibia,” said Uutoni.
Kapenda has been in hospital in Ongwediva since 2 October after an illness.
He is survived by his mother, wife and eight children.
