Nampu threatens to release ‘naughty list’
News in short
The Namibia Media Professionals Union (Nampu) has threatened to reveal the names of various media houses that have been accused of exploiting journalists.
“Nampu has been inundated with complaints from journalists who have not been paid on time, while others have been made to work without any contracts or meaningful employment agreements,” the union said in a statement.
“We demand that the owners of media houses where journalists are working without contracts, with three- to six-month contracts or are not paid on time address this situation by the end of April,” Nampu acting secretary-general Jemima Beukes said.
According to her, failure to comply will compel Nampu to release a list of media houses where journalists work without contracts, as well as the average salaries earned by journalists at these establishments.
