New court for Katima
News in short
Chief Justice Peter Shivute officiated the inauguration of the newly-constructed Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, and stressed the importance of proper infrastructure in administering justice effectively.
He noted that the court's design prioritises security for judicial officers and the public, creating a safe environment for sensitive cases.
According to him, special features include private waiting areas for vulnerable witnesses, such as children, and innovative one-way viewing glass in testimony rooms to protect their dignity and encourage truthful testimony.
"This brand-new building has been designed with the needs of vulnerable witnesses in mind, particularly children and adults who may find the court environment intimidating," he said.
Shivute urged judicial officers and court staff to take pride in their work within the new facility, and called on the public to utilise the court as a resource for protecting their rights and resolving disputes.
