#JustIn: Judge President to travel North to ease caseload
Next month, the High Court will hear criminal cases in the Kavango East and Zambezi regions as part of an initiative to ease the caseload in these regions.
There are currently only two High Courts in Namibia, one in Windhoek and the other in Oshakati. Judge President Petrus Damaseb has identified the need for circuit courts to promote access to justice.
The office of the judiciary today released a statement informing the public that Damaseb will be presiding over eight criminal trial cases in these regions.
“All the accused persons and the witnesses in these cases are from Rundu and Katima Mulilo.”
Damaseb will preside over the circuit court in the Kavango East from 1 to 15 August and the circuit court in the Zambezi from 17 to 31 August.
