#JustIn: Judge Makarau sworn in at Supreme Court
Judge Rita Makarau was sworn in by Chief Justice Peter Shivute as an acting judge of the Supreme Court this morning.
However, there are concerns about Judge Makarau's qualifications after the Ministry of Justice initially announced her appointment.
The ministry responded: "Judge Makarau brings a wealth of legal experience to the position, having worked both as a prosecutor and a legal practitioner. She has extensive experience spanning 22 years and appointments as a judge, the Judge President of the High Court of Zimbabwe and a Judge of the High Court of Zimbabwe."
The ambassador for Zimbabwe in Namibia, Melody Chaurura, also attended the swearing-in event, where she said the appointment could possibly strengthen the relationship between Namibia and Zimbabwe.
