Go for regular health checks - Geingob
News in short
President Hage Geingob has urged young people to undergo frequent health checks, saying had he not constantly monitored his health, he may have been worse off now.
His remarks follow his return from a minor heart procedure he underwent in South Africa recently. Geingob made the comments at a recent Swapo central committee meeting.
Geingob described the experience as difficult.
"It was terrible, but thank God I am up now. We discovered these things early, and therefore, I would like to advise all young people to always to be going to doctors, early detection... that serious matters become not so serious," he said.
"Had I had other problems, it would have been difficult to knock me out and bring me back again," Geingob said.
Swapo vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah also used the opportunity to thank the medical staff who attended to Geingob.
"To be hospitalised, you can never say it is small. We really want to thank the Almighty. We want to thank all the doctors and personnel who were with him," she said.
