Govt support for start-ups questioned

NEWS IN SHORT
Chief whip of the Landless People's Movement (LPM) Utaara Mootu has tabled a motion in parliament demanding urgent and transparent accountability from the government regarding its support for entrepreneurs and start-up ecosystems.

"This motion challenges the adequacy of current funding mechanisms and the government's role in nurturing young entrepreneurs, who are pivotal to innovative growth and economic diversification," she said.

The motion further calls for a detailed report from relevant government bodies on expenditures, outcomes and the effectiveness of youth-targeted entrepreneurial funding initiatives.

The motion seeks a strategic restructuring if current measures are found lacking, emphasising the need for aggressive, well-funded programmes to empower youth business ventures.

Mootu said the motion aims not only to question but also to drive significant enhancements in government policy, ensuring that youth entrepreneurship is prioritised as a national economic strategy.
