JUST IN: Army dispatched to assist with fires
The Namibia Defence Force has dispatched its members based at the Karibib Air Base to render support to farmers in the Omatjete area in the Erongo Region, following a request for assistance by that region’s governor, Neville Andre.
Army spokesperson Petrus Shilumbu confirmed that help was on the way.
“The Air Force is mobilising about 30 troops to go and render assistance provided that farmers has all necessary equipment,” he said.
Shilumbu denied that the army did not respond to the farmers’ cry because of an alleged lack of fuel and called on farmers to use the right channels when requesting help.
“All fire fighting requests are channelled through respective governor’s offices, not through individuals, therefore there was a misunderstanding. People should learn to follow right channels in order to be assisted accordingly by the right people or offices,” he said
