News in short

A 31-year-old man was set to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court last week after allegedly stealing his late cousin’s will and executing it.

The incident took place in the Onesi constinuency’s Oshihau village in the Omusati Region.

The man - who cannot be named yet – was set to appear on charges of theft under the Administration of Estates Act.

Omusati crime investigation coordinator, Commissioner Moses Simaho, said the incident took place between 18 September 2022 and 18 March 2023.

The suspect stole cars, cattle, goats, donkeys and other unidentified items all valued at N$748 300.

“It is alleged that the suspect took the inheritance without the consent of the widow, who is appointed as an executor of her late husband properties,” he said. It remains unclear how the suspect got hold of the will.

The 61-year-old widow reported the incident to the police, Simaho said.

The stolen items have yet to be recovered, while the suspect was arrested last Wednesday in the Olyasiiti village of the Tsandi constituency.
