Oshakati to host regional karate tourney
The Oshakati Karate Club will host the tournament at the Erundu Combined School (CS) Hall in the Oshakati East Constituency from 08:00 till 18:00 on Saturday.
Head coach of the Oshakati Karate Club, Sensei Freddie Mwiya, confirmed this on Tuesday.
The teams participating in the tournament are from Katima Mulilo in the Caprivi Region, Rundu in the Kavango Region, Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region and Oshakati and Ondangwa in the Oshana Region.
Mwiya revealed that karate fans will be watching national team members who are part of the karate team that is going to represent the country in the Zone Six Championships to be held in neighbouring Botswana on June 30.
“National team members will use this tournament as a part of their preparations before departing for the Zone Six Championships later this month,” said Mwiya.
The sport of karate is gaining momentum in northern Namibia, with the Oshakati Karate Club continuously feeding the country’s national team with a number of talented people.
