Villo’s ‘Otweya’

SAMUEL Vilho (29) brings the goodness as Villo, spreading the Gospel through a sound infl uenced by Kwaito, Afro-pop and Reggae on his 2010 release Otweya. The album available all over the country was his second presentation, following the 2009 release of 10-track I Believe which he recorded with DJ Miclassa. Afrikaaps Film Saturday

In his debut documentary Afrikaaps Dylan Valley explores the untold Creole history of Afrikaans, using what he knows best: Hip-hop, humour and personal perspective. The fi lm follows a group of Western Cape local artists creating the stage production, Afrikaaps as they trace the true roots of Afrikaans to slaves in Cape Town. Jan Jonker Afrikaner Choir Wins

The National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) in partnership with the Directorate of Arts and the National Arts Council staged the inaugural High School Choral Contest on 18 June in Windhoek. This is the pilot phase of the event and involved Khomas Education Region and surrounding areas, NTN explained adding that next year they would like to expand the participation. PAPA EXHIBITS INFINITY

Veteran Namibian artist and art activist Papa Ndasunye Shikongeni will open his latest exhibition ‘Infi nity’ next Tuesday (28 June) at the Studio 77 gallery in Windhoek at 18h00. European Union ambassador to Namibia Raul Fuentes Milani will open the exhibition. The exhibition of more than 25 original works includes mixed media and prints as well as Shikongeni’s latest innovation, ink on paper pictures created from the ink left over from the printing process. “I use the old ink to create new art. NAGN Labour Problems Continue

This Wednesday National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) director and veteran Namibian visual artist Joseph Madisia appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on a summons related to a case of common assault being pursued against him by the State and on behalf of gallery employee Ebson Hamauka. The case was postponed for the third time due to the defence council requesting more preparation time. The new date for the continuation is set for 12 and 13 October. BE MISS NAMIBIA!

TWENTY-year-old Georgina Kandjeke from Windhoek is one of the beautiful young Namibian women who has already entered for this year’s Miss Namibia competition. At the moment Georgina is pursuing a degree in Human Resource Management.

She has participated in beauty pageants since she was seven years old. Namibian ladies between 18 and 23 have until Wednesday, 6 July at 12h00 to enter for the competition.

The group will be experimenting with a double weekend run. It will stage four plays over six days (consecutive Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays). ‘A Report to an Academy’ will open on Thursday, 23 June and will be replayed on the following Friday.
