CONGRATULATIONS to Janine Oosthuizen, Miss Biltongfees 2011, who won herself a BlackBerry Pearl, sponsored by Leo. The Biltong Fees is held annually at the Wanderers Sports Field in Pionierspark, and this year was the nineteenth festival. According to the organisers, every year since 1992, a Biltong Festival is organised and held in Windhoek. CHRISTOPHER Walsh is just 20 years old but tomorrow he leaves for Los Angeles to represent Namibia in the World Championship of Performing Arts.
Walsh, who was born in Windhoek, started down the path of his musical career while still attending the Windhoek Gymnasium School at age 14 or 15, he told Tjil this week.
A keyboard at home inspired him to take classes at On Beat Music and also two years of classic piano training under the experienced tuition of Valery van Biljon. Read more about Christopher for World Championships

Talented local singers and dancers now have the chance to showcase their skills on national television with the launch of the Talent Quest Show in Windhoek this week by Daab Entertainment Promotions.
According to promoters the Talent Quest Show, which will be screened on local television by One Africa Television, is a talent contest in various categories where the winner gets to perform over various rounds to progress to the grand fi nale where they will walk away with a trophy, gift vouchers and cash prizes. Old Mutual has announced the Namibian acts that will be participating in the much-anticipated annual Old Mutual Jazz Encounter later this year.
Old Mutual held auditions for the Old Mutual Jazz Encounter 2011 at the 99FM Playhouse Theater in June, with a total of 18 bands auditioning. The Jazz Encounter will take place on 8 October at the Hage Geingob Stadium in the capital.
The organisers say the caliber of this year’s local acts inspiringly showcased Namibia’s outstanding Jazz talent and proved that this year’s Jazz Encounter will be a feast for Jazz and music lovers. Read more about Big Ben and The Jazz

The Dogg and his spokesperson Hilda Basson Namundjebo of Oxygen Communications this week announced that they intend to sue South African ‘Queen of Bling’ Khanyi Mbau for her non-appearance at last week’s offi cial launch of his new album The Deception.
According to Basson Namundjebo, Mbau informed the organisers of the event that she would not attend in the early hours of last Friday morning just before the CD launch which took place at the UNAM stadium in Windhoek on the Saturday night. Read more about DOGG TO SUE MBAU

Tonight from 19h00 the National Theatre of Namibia presents the fi rst major commissioned play under the Bank Windhoek Arts Festival for 2011 when the curtain raises on the main stage for the gala opening of Sandy Rudd’s ‘Happy Beat’. Featuring some 250 artists, a full orchestra, close to 30 drummers from the ‘Hit The Beat’ drum group of the Waldorf School Windhoek, the incredible voice of Dantago Schimming (African Boy) and the ground-breaking lead of deaf theatre star Sabino, the production will run through to 15 July and is defi nitely not to be missed. Vocal Motion Six is back home in Namibia and acapella group member Markus Chizyuka popped in at Namibian Sun to talk about their experience at the recently staged Tampere Vocal Competition and Festival where the group won fourth place as well as a special award despite stiff competition from all over the world.

Khomas High School in Windhoek will celebrate its ten-year anniversary on Saturday at the Cosmos High School Hall with a beauty pageant to fi nd Miss Khomas High 2011 from 14h00 to 20h00.
