TransNamib partnership with Legacy yields positive results

Staff Reporter
The Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre is on course to becoming one of Namibia’s leading hospitality enterprises again.

This comes after TransNamib Holdings Limited and Legacy Hospitality Management joined forces in December 2021 to reopen the renowned establishment. Since then, the establishment’s healthy occupancy rate has continued to grow on a month-to-month basis, and increased revenues are a testament to the success of the partnership.

"We are incredibly proud of the positive results we have achieved this last year. There is a massive amount of work that goes into reopening a hotel, and the results are a testament to the remarkably strong management team we have at Legacy and the support we enjoy from the owner of the hotel, TransNamib," said Robert Hodson, the chief operating officer of Legacy Hotels and Resorts.

Plans

He added that there are some exciting plans in the pipeline for 2023.

"These include the restoration of the historic 1901 station building around which the hotel is built, plus the launch of Coffee Whistlestop, a new coffee shop on the station platform that will bring old-world charm amalgamated with modern, new-world amenities."

Johny Smith, CEO of TransNamib Limited, said that the management of the national rail transporter is exceptionally pleased with the progress made by Legacy Hotel Management since the hotel reopened.

"We have full confidence in them as our management partner and believe that on the current trajectory, the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre will once again be the leading destination of choice for both business and leisure travellers to the area."

According to Smith, the hotel's positive improvement would not have been possible without Namibia's government's support for the Swakopmund Hotel's transition to 100% TransNamib ownership and support for the hotel's business.

Renovations

The hotel was temporarily closed during the global Covid-19 pandemic. The hotel buildings are currently being repainted, the gardens are back to their former glory, and new additions have also been made to the casino. Conferences and events are increasingly becoming more popular and will be a top priority for the business to focus on growing in 2023.
