Chinese Development Agency pledges N$25 million in aid
NEWS IN SHORT
The China International Development Cooperation Agency has pledged to give N$25 million in food relief aid, or ¥2 million in, its vice chairman Tang Wenhong said.
The donation was announced during a courtesy call by Wenhong to President Hage Geingob at State House last week.
“We have decided to provide 10 million Chinese yuan (N$25 million) worth of food aid to Namibia to relieve your pressure in terms of food supply,” said Wenhong.
China is keen to help develop Namibia, as was evidenced in previous projects it undertook in Namibia, Wenhong said.
“China has helped Namibia in projects such as borehole drilling, house building, hospitals, schools, agriculture, electricity and road construction, provided Namibia with a number of aid materials, and is supporting the social and economic development provided here,” he said.
China, Wenhong said, is eager for its relationship with Namibia to continue to grow from strength to strength.
“China and Namibia’s relationship was forged in the two sides’ joint efforts, struggling for national independence. It has withstood and is going from strength to strength. We have reached a consensus on deepening the bilateral strategic partnerships, which is pointing out the future direction of the China-Namibia relationship,” he said.
