Man dies from poisoned brew
News in short
A man died last Sunday after allegedly consuming poisoned traditional brew in Omukondo village.
Omusati crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Simaho, said Johannes Amadhila (36) found three men drinking a jar of okatokele at a cuca shop.
“He joined and drank from the same jar. Thereafter, the victim started complaining that he had a headache.”
He went to another cuca shop, where he fell down, onlookers said.
He was rushed to Indira Gandhi Health Centre at Onemanya and he was transferred to Okahao State Hospital. He died on Monday.
Postmortem results show possible poisoning, Simaho said. No arrests have been made yet.
In an unrelated incident, a Namibia Defence Force (NDF) member died in a freak accident on Tuesday afternoon at Onaeluka village.
Simaho said Johannes Natangwe Aiyambo was allegedly found dead between his car and the poles of his traditional house.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Aiyambo (57) was replacing his car’s tyres when he started the car, which lurched forward and crushed him.
