Mom denied bail for allegedly abandoning baby

Wilhelmina Ndapewa Abed (24) made her first appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate's Court yesterday on a charge of child abandonment. She was denied bail. Her case was postponed to 18 June.
Abed was arrested on Saturday afternoon after her 16-month-old baby girl was discovered abandoned in the dunes near Narraville in the early morning hours of the same day. The baby was found wrapped in a blanket and dressed in warm clothes.
Erongo Region police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba confirmed the incident, adding that the baby is safe.
